Various Fads and Technological Achievements is the debut LP from the hyper-prolific Australian solo project Alien Nosejob (Jake Robertson). Released in 2018, this album showcases the project's wildly varied, genre-hopping ethos in its earliest form. The record is intentionally split into two distinct sides: one featuring garage-y, folk-rock tunes, and the second dominated by electronic, synth-driven disco-punk tracks. This unpredictable mix, recorded primarily in a DIY bedroom setting, embodies a chaotic energy often compared to early Devo on a meth trip, yet grounded by Robertson's sharp, melodic songwriting.
