Revolution in 35mm: Political Violence and Resistance in Cinema from the Arthouse to the Grindhouse, 1960–1990 is a collection of essays that explores how political violence and resistance were portrayed in a wide range of films, from arthouse classics to cult grindhouse movies, between 1960 and 1990. The book delves into how filmmakers worldwide reacted to the protest and resistance movements of the era, including those related to postcolonial struggles, student and worker protests, Black Power, and feminism. It also examines films about urban guerrilla groups like the Red Army Faction and the Red Brigades.

Edited by film critics and academics Andrew Nette and Samm Deighan, the book features contributions from twelve authors and includes over two hundred illustrations. It covers a diverse array of filmmaking movements and genres, such as the French New Wave, spaghetti westerns, and Blaxploitation. The essays analyze the production, distribution, and censorship of these films and how they were received by audiences and critics. The book also highlights the work of both well-known political filmmakers like Costa-Gavras and lesser-known directors, particularly those from the Global South.
