Swansong is the hugely influential fifth studio album from British extreme metal band Carcass. Originally released in 1996, this cassette documents the band's final and most controversial shift in sound, moving completely away from their Grindcore and Melodic Death Metal roots towards a crushing, groove-laden Heavy Metal and Melodic Death N' Roll style. Retaining the dual guitar wizardry of Bill Steer and Michael Amott, the album is characterized by huge, intricate riffs, mid-tempo swagger, and highly evolved production. While divisive among purists, Swansong is celebrated for its technical excellence and for solidifying the Death 'N' Roll subgenre.
